Mission Statement
The Broken Bow Public Library will serve as a center for learning and enrichment and believes it is essential
to provide materials and services which will help area residents obtain information meeting their personal, educational and
professional needs.
ServicesThe library serves the community by providing over 25,000 books for all reading levels, videotapes, and books-on-tape,
as well as over 125 magazine titles. Residents within the city limits may obtain a library card at no charge. Non-resident
fees are charged annually for those living out of Broken Bow's city limits. Fees are $15 for an individual, $20 for a
family, and $25 for a rural school.
The library has four public access computers available at no charge. The computers
also have Microsoft 2000 office, FrontPage, Outlook, PhotoDraw, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Wireless internet access is available
at no charge. Users under the age of 18 need a consent card with the signature of a parent or guardian in order to use the
computers. Patrons may access web-based e-mail accounts on the computers. Research databases that are available online are
Books in Print, FirstSearch, Wilson Web, and bigchalk eLibrary.
A reading area with a fireplace is in the
main library, while a reading nook and gazebo are in the children's library. There is also a meeting room at the
library with a television, VCR, DVD and one-way down link satellite for individual or group use.
In addition,
the office for the Mid-Plains Community College area coordinator is located at the library.
Special library services
and programs include interlibrary loan, ABE/GED classes, book discussion groups for teens and adults, Humanities programs,
story hour for children ages 4-8, lapsit story time for 0-3 year olds, summer reading programs for school-age children,
and art exhibits. Food and beverages are allowed throughout the entire building and free coffee is always available.
